Major is a 2022 Indian biographical action film directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka. The story and screenplay is written by Adivi Shesh who also plays the titular role in the movie. The cinematic piece is based on the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. He was martyred in the 2008 Mumbai attack.
As an ardent viewer of Indian Cinema I feel so proud of this young army person and also congratulate the filmmakers for handling the subject matter of the creative so sensibly without hurting the sentiments of the family and friends and an opportunity to live all the moments with Sandeep. This cinematic piece also gives the audience a chance to witness the dedication and courage and sacrifice this selfless soldier showed while safeguarding complete strangers regular Mumbai people.
The film hooks its audience from the very start of the narrative. The scene gives an idea to the viewers that even though Sandeep Unnikrishnan had a short life but he made it big so that people around him and now the viewers also good celebrate his life all thanks to the movie. I also love the fact that Major also portrays the struggle the pain family had to bear during Army commitments and also the sadness endured after the death which often remains hidden in real life.
Adivi Shesh plays Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan. He shines and the actor’s hard-work is evident in every scene. Shesh does not try to copy the protagonist but he wants to pay a tribute to him by bringing in his own skills while staying true to the feedback from the loved ones of the soldier.
Prakash Raj plays the father of Sandeep. He brings out all the shades of the relationship between the son and the father. He also showcases all the changes he had to go through because of the twists and turns in Sandeep Unnikrishnan’s life.
To conclude I want to say I really wish he had survived the attacks and would be here with us to tell his stories through interviews too as we watched the movie in the theatres.
