Film Review

Luka Chuppi

Luka Chuppi is a 2019 Indian Hindi language romantic comedy film directed by Laxman Utekar and produced by Dinesh Vijani’s Maddock films.  The film is set in Mathura and it highlights the subject matter of a live in relationship. The director showcases the response of the orthodox families to this modern concept.

I like the message the movie is trying to deliver to the audience and also the treatment of the film has been kept desi with a modern flavour. The acceptance of concept is still a major problem even though it has been legalized by the court.

The narrative revolves around Guddu (Kartik Aryan) and Rashmi (Kriti Sanon) try living together partners before the actual marriage and it becomes an hard task to survive in all the situations and still manage to convince their parents that it is normal for two adults to decide on whether they want to live together to check the compatibility between the duo.

I would like to appreciate the efforts of everyone involved with the film to take up such a controversial topic to make the creative piece but the sad truth is that there is a lot of time and effort required to classify the subject matter in question as normal in the eyes of Indian masses. Other filmmakers should also be open to take risks with other films like Luka Chuppi to spread more awareness also educate the public about the same.
