What degree of Creative liberty can be allowed in a Biopic?

Creative Liberty is defined as having the ability or power to create. The filmmakers tend to take creative liberties with the real facts of the film to make it more entertaining for the audience and keep them hooked to the content of the movie. The concept of creative liberty has two major elements namely dramatization and realism which needs to be taken care of while working on storylines pertaining to the life of a person.

Dramatization is when one changes the situations occurring in the real event and designs it to be suitable in the world of cinema. The point of view narrative gives clarity and access to subject matter of the film to explore the same further. The director and the creative team attempts to reveal aspects of people’s life to the viewers. This is done to illustrate their lives so that the general public could relate and get inspired by their life.

Biopics have become recent favorite of Bollywood to earn a lot of money. The newest addition being Sabash Mithu based on life of captain of Indian women’s cricket team. A biopic is made so that the audience/fans can know about their idols but these films don’t show 100 percent real facts and end up adding the drama so that the cinematic piece a successful venture at the box office.

To conclude I will like to say that I agree with the idea not over dramatizing reality in biopics and should focus on researching about the concerned personality and minimize the fiction in the narrative. Authentic material and a clear intent of the makers are essential to justify real life stories.
