Why actress’s career is cut short in comparison to their counterparts?

Indian Cinema is true representation of the Indian Society. Bollywood being such an extensive and well known industry couldn’t ward off the social pressure on it. The gender bias is quite evident in the industry.

Though there has been variety in terms of content in accordance to the changing times but the big screen treats actors differently on the basis of men and women rather than on the grounds of talent and performances. It is said that aging makes you better in everything and people learn from experience. In accordance with the film industry this theory holds true only for heroes. Why is it that the heroines are judged on their looks, age, and marital status?

In the showbiz industry or even by the audience why only actors are thought of as notable in a film and actresses is just casted to add glamour in it. Films like Dhoom3, Blue and others have used this technique. There is nothing like retirement for the males in Bollywood while all rules are to be followed by the actresses. It is accepted by the audience when a male superstar namely Aamir Khan, Sharukh Khan and Rajnikant are paired opposite younger Costar but a female senior actors cannot do the same. It is wrong that Bollywood lets the beautiful and capable actresses of the earlier era just fade away without using their full potential. The movies like Saand ki Aankh, Gangubai kaathiwadi should have used a senior actor who could have been fit for the role instead of using younger actresses and putting a lot of makeup in order to make the viewers believe in their characters.

In the Modern times the ladies are showcasing girl power and altering the definition of womanhood which dictates them only to be a dutiful wife and loving mothers. Some of these silver screen divas like Rani Mukherjee, Kareena Kapoor have decided to continue with their careers even after the necessary milestones in their lives like Marriage and babies. As an audience we should accept the modifications these brave women are trying to make by becoming the face of the change. It is essential to give these actresses equality in terms of opportunities as well as money.
